Anyone run the LE3 kit with a 383 on the street?
Anyone run the LE3 kit with a 383 on the street?
I just bought a 383 short block and I want to top it off with the LE3 kit, but this is my everyday car. How choppy is the idle and do you think the cops will give me problems and how bad will it be to get it through inspection? I live in New Jersey where there is emissions testing, but I got a gas station that is a little more lenient. What about the drivablity of it? And what is the estimated gas miliage ( I know its horrible, but I just figured I'd ask). Thanks for any info.

Ask Mr. LE3, LLoyd Elliott. I'm quite sure he has a cam that does what you want with LE3 heads on your 383, or he can have a custom one done for your application.

ive got an LE3 383, but keep in mind this is what lloyd built for me and yours could be different. I have over 2000 miles on my car since I finished it last week of july.
the idle is VERY choppy. The cops here dont seem to mind and my car is extremely loud. inspection I wouldnt know since I only have to pass a visual but plan on your car throwing some kind of trouble code when youre done.
I think its driveable, others may not. my 3500 rpm stall really helps driveability otherwise it would buck at anything under 1500 rpm.
my best tank was almost 12. average is about 10. keep in mind I am untuned (well, a madz28 tune but not a dyno tune), I drive short distances (~5 miles a day), with alot of cold starts and letting it warm up. its mostly stop and go NO highway. the converter probably doesnt help the mileage at all since its impossible to not see 3000 rpm during normal driving a few times during the trip. I also have a lead foot. I think it gets good mileage for what the conditions are and what the engine does.

The LE2 and LE3 cams don't pass emissions, he does have some emissions cams that will though and they aren't choppy and idle very well. I would still suggest the LE3 heads since the big valves are very helpfull on a stroker.

I've seen people post here that say they have passed emissions barely with a GM847 and a really good dyno tune. what transmission do you have? if you have an M6 I'd go with some 4.10's or 3.73's if you are on an A4 so you can get moving easier.
