Anyone port their stock ram-air hoods?
Anyone port their stock ram-air hoods?
I hear a lot of (valid?) complaining about the restrictiveness of the stock ram-air hoods on 4th gens. When I looked at mind, there appear to be a lot of extra material around the inlet that could be removed. You might even be able to remove it all and mount the screen from the back side.
Has anyone done this yet? and do you have pictures?
(This is a shot of my inlet with the ghetto screen a previous owner installed. I don't plan on keeping it this way)

And an obligatory link to the infamous "Dyno Comparison -- Pontiac Ram Air Hood Up vs. Down" http://www.ws6.com/hood.htm

Re: Anyone port their stock ram-air hoods?
For street use, I cut about 1/2" off the bottom of the front baffle (you have to reach in through the "nostrils" to do that), and about 1" off the top of the rear baffle. Seemed to improve breathing (when combined with cutting out the grid on the airbox and replacing the bellows with the Fernco sewer pipe connector), while still keeping the water out.
After it became a "track car", I cut both baffles completely out, and remove the plastic screens at the track. Water ends up on the filter when I tow it in the rain, so I have a big Moroso foam plug that I stuff in the scoop from behind when I tow.
[Moderator Input] Really better if you did not include pictures that wide in your posts... it screws up the appearance on the screen, and makes the posts hard to read. Either reduce the size to 640pixels or just post the link, and not the actual photo.
