Anyone with a Optima Red Top step inside please

Hey Guys,

This morning I was in a hurry but decided to stop in at a parts store by my house and check on the new battery I need. I decided to go with the Optima Red Top but was curious what part# it was. All I saw was Redtops with both Top and Side posts??? Is this normal for Optima. I know it probably doesnt matter but I dont need the 2 extra top posts??? Suggestions?

No problem with having both sets terminals.

Advise getting the one with the most power.

If you have trouble fitting it because the hold-down bolt won't reach, use a spade drill bit to drill the bolt hole down about 3/8" so the bolt will reach down into the mounting plate.

It's a tight fit, but it will work just fine.JMHO.

Yeah the one I am looking at is 800 cca and 980 ca. As far as the battery fit I should be ok. Rather than replace my battery tray/radiator overflow that is so prone to breakage, I modified it. I bought the exide battery hold down kit and used a dremel to notch the tray and adapt it. No more sliding battery.

i have a red top, and, yeah, they come with top and side. Just in case you want to convert later is what i've heard. I personally don't plan on it. It looks cleaner side post style. Anyway, the only problem I had is that the bottom was too big to fit in the tray, so it's only tied down on one side, but it doesn't move. You said you wouldn't have any problems with fit, so more power to ya. later.

It is cleaner to keep the side posts. However, I have the yellow top and each time I want to unhook the negative cable, I have to unbolt the battery from the tray and tilt it forward. The battery is larger then stock and sits the negative post right against the power steering resivor. I should convert to top post one day.

Yeah, that does sound like a pain. I just got mine on there a few weeks ago, so I haven't checked that out yet, but I hope I don't have to do that as well.
