anyone not remove their dipstick during header install?

Am I asking for trouble here? I have everything off but the dipstick then I can remove the manifolds. Is it possible to remove them without taking out the dipstick? I have 96-97 Macs (yeah I know 94-95 are better.) Thanks

I have Mac-mid's on my 94 Bird and I don't think we had to remove the dipstick. I could be wrong but I think you can leave it on. But it might be easier to install the headers if you take it off, just be very careful not to bend or break it. Goodluck!

Take the dipstick out and do the install right. It's not hard and it's better safe than sorry. I pulled my dipstick to install a set of Edelbrocks... and those are no way near as huge as the macs... so I'm sure you'll have to remove the D-stick also.

When i pulled my macs off a few days ago, i had to pull it out. When i installed them the first time, i couldnt hardly get it back in, but sanded it down a little, and now it slides right in and out, do it right like they said above, if not, you might break or bend it which it would be easier just to pull it out and be safe.
