anyone know alternators?

Can I convert my stock 140 amp alt for my LT1 to a single wire? Install a self exciter?

If I can I would rather do that b/c I have the bracket/belts set up for it(madman/ATI stuff) If I convert it to a mini then I need pullies brackets etc. and set it up

the place i get mine from was about to do it to mine. look in the phone book for a alternator/starter rebuild shop, they can do it for you. if you don't need a factory amp alternator look at the smaller alternators , for less weight

I have a shop I use. I have to go pick up some stuff tommorow for some race cars so I will take it with me.

I would rather have a smaller one, but I will just use this one for now b/c everything is set-up for it and I'm running out of money

You should just be able to swap the regulator out. Why do you want to?

So solder a wire to the middle small pin and run it to a switched power source.

I geuss, but it's cheep and would only take 15 minutes. It beats finding someone who knows how to replace a regulator in an alternator, and IIRC the internal regulation regulators are pretty pricey.

I got a guy that does them close by....he told me $35

I will report back and see what he does
