anyone have a whine with the lt4 timing chain kit?
anyone have a whine with the lt4 timing chain kit?
as soon as i started the car after cam install it had this whine noise when revved up. never there before. tried adjusting rockers, removing belt, replaced opti-spark, water pump. and checked for vacum leaks. no luck yet. gets higher pitched as rpm increases. pulled timing cover off, no signs of contact anywhere. am i chasing a problem that is normal with this kit? my coworkers tease me about having a supercharger its so loud. any ideas????
Re: anyone have a whine with the lt4 timing chain kit?
yup, the opti is setting flush, both where. i actually removed the cover to check the teeth, positioning, tone wheel etc, visually i cant find a problem. but it whines like a byotch.

I had a whine like you describe. Unfortunately, my gear got ate up. I think it was caused by the water pump.

Did you repace the idler gear? my kit came with three gears not two and I have heard if you do not replace the one for the water pump idler gear it will tear up the cam timing gear.
Re: anyone have a whine with the lt4 timing chain kit?
I don't have a whine, but I do have a new sound at idle. It's hard to
explain because it's very subtle. Some kind of new engine noise that
is not the rockers or lifters. I just assumed it was the LT4 ED timing
set since that is the only change made that could make noise.

Re: anyone have a whine with the lt4 timing chain kit?
I saw an article awhile back about drilling some small .050 holes in the crank gear I belive to supply more oil to the chain to quite things down a bit. Moreperformanceinc.com has the setup & it's reasonable. Some where under $50?
Re: anyone have a whine with the lt4 timing chain kit?
There are small holes in the FACTORY oil galley plugs in the lifter oil galleys, behind the gear, that spray oil on the timing set.If they have not been replaced with ones with holes in them your timing set is gonna suffer.
Most shops don't notice and put in regular plugs from a non LT-1 and they have no holes, unless they are drilled. ooopppppppsss
