Anyone going fast with Comp Solid rollers?

I like the idea of the lower lift solid rollers that would let me use the 977 springs (not run big 943 pressure). Anyone using the off the shelf solid roller grinds from Comp with success?

Looking at the 248/254 .576/.582 112.

Thanks,
Ryan

Head flow numbes are:

.2 - 135
.3 - 193
.4 - 236
.5 - 259
.6 - 264
(.7 - 263)

Nothing spectacular. Car has 4.10s.

Looking for a larger cam that won't get me worried about breaking lifters and valvepsrings.

Hey Ryan,
I ran a Comp XR286 for a couple of years in my 68 Camaro before selling the car. Never had a problem, set the lash every 6k miles but it was usually very close.
The XR is what Comp calls a "Street Roller". The lift is .576/.582 (with 1.5's), duration @.050 248/254 on a 110º lsa. I ran Isky SP springs on this cam with ~400 lbs open, 165 lbs closed. The biggest part of the equation on these solids is having the right lifter. Now that the endurex lifters have been around long enough, I've heard from alot of guys who have had some problems with them. I've had good luck with Crowers. Order them with the high pressure pin oiler ( ("HIPPO") option, no restrictors, and they will do the job on the street. Another solid lifter guys are having good results from are the Isky Red Zones. There again..... these are rather new so we'll have to wait and see but Isky seems to be on to something.

Good luck!

Thumbs up

Exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks!

I'm starting to wonder if I should take a chance with the Crane 11522s, since I already have them. A little more $ now, or a lot (plus time/engine R&R) later. Its only money, right?

Didn't even dawn on me til just now, that we're probably referring to the same cam grind Ryan, lol. With the exception that you're thinking to go with a 112 lsa.

On your springs.... hey, they may work with some shimming. I'm not familiar with that particular spring but if you can get the pressure without stacking the coils you're probably going to be fine. I'd keep a close eye on them for the first 5k miles though. Hell, I keep a close eye on em anyways.

Good luck.

Actually, I was going to see if they could custom grind it for on a 110*. Better to err on the tight side according Mr Vizard, right? (I get lots of use out of the search feature )

On the Compcam website catalogue, the recommended (comp) springs are the 977s for that cam. However, they do not list that cam in the LT1 section. I will give Comp a call tomorrow check it out.

Thanks for real world input
Ryan
