Anyone ever have problems with the chip in the key?

I think mine is messing up. Sometimes the car wont start but everything on the dash comes on. If I play with the key for a little while the car starts. So this last time it was doing it, I played with the chip on the key and it started right up. Anyone know how much the keys are, or if maybe it could be another problem? Thanks

YEah i know what your talking about, my key did the same thing but in my cadliac, its the same key as in chevey becasue there both made by GM dealers, yeah but my experience turned out bad since it was on a date and my car wouldnt start, a little embaressing, but let my experience be a lesson get that key fixed or you will end up stranded like me, they are like $50 at the dealships.

Do Not GO to a dealership, go to your local locksmith that does automotive the key you need is called a GM VATS key. There like 11 of them( different chips I mean) he'll test the chip for resistance then cut the key like 20 bucks.

Usually, the problem is not with the key, but rather with the lock cylinder. The contacts inside in that read the resistor pellet embedded in the key either get dirty or wear out. Either way, the computer reads the wrong value from the key sometimes, and the car won't start. You can either replace the lock (I was quoted $400 installed by a dealer) or bypass the system ($5). Search for VATS disable. It's pretty easy to do and solves the problem.
