Anyone ever done a PCM tune after headers?
Anyone ever done a PCM tune after headers?
Searched, but couldn't find anything.
I'm installing my full exhaust this spring (MAC Single Cat Headers, high flow cat, and Hooker Cat-back)
Has anyone ever tried a tune after this? Just wondering, since I'm already having Ion at www.madz28.com program out my rear O2's, should I also try a tune?
What are your thoughts?
Dan

Yes, and the long answer is that unless this is the last mod you're ever going to do, i.e. you are done with the car, you should wait until you have more modificaitons before buying a tune.
My car, totally stock except FLP longtubes and a dynomax ultraflow muffler, spent a whole day on Hypertech's Dynojet back in the summer of 2001. They found 8 peak HP and 10ft lbs of torque.
Now I got the tune free because of some circumstances I am not going to go into...its a long story. But my point is you are unlikely to pick up enough HP to make it worth the money. They had all day to tune on my car, a mail order tune is merely a best guess (not insulting PCM for Less or Ion, but max results are going to be found by dyno-tuning) and even if you spend 1 hr on the dyno you might get 5-7hp at best.
I'd wait until you have a greater need for the tuning unless you enjoy spending money for minimal gain.

Yeah, I plan on a XE218/224 in about a year or so. I guess I'll see how the full exhaust does with the stock tune first.
If Ion is already going to have my PCM, I'm wondering if it's worth a "best guess" for the few extra dollars above the cost of the O2 delete?

Well I am getting a tune after my headders. He is deleting my EGR related stuff, and rear O2's. Raising my rev limiter to 6K and adjusting the AF ratio. It think it's worth $8/HP. Since with headders I payed $80/HP!
