Anybody with the new MSD 96-97 Coil?

I ordered one thurs as my stock one has 97k on it and im redoing the whole ignition system. Problem is my friend told me about all the problems he has read about the MSD coils on this page, and knows of 2 people here locally that had them and said they were junk. But all the reffrences I can find including the two friends here locally have the older versions for 94-95 year model. So does anybody have the new 96-97 one and have any ideas on it??

Thanks

Clint

I've always heard that the 96-97 stock coil was way better than the one on the 94-95 cars. I didn't even know MSD made a coil for the 96-97 cars. But on another note I had one on my 94 and it went out in three months. I sent it back to MSD and they said nothing was wrong with it even though my car would stay running with it on. Go figure. I don’t like them.

I was kind of wondering about the MSD coil for 96-97 cars myself. But my OEM one is still going strong so maybe I shouldn't mess with it!

I agree. In all the time I've had my '96 Z29(Nov, 95 till today) I've never seen an aftermarket coil specifically for the 96/97's that even claimed it could do a better job. I've read numerous times on the national Fbody lists that it's already optimal. Use your money for something else

I put the coil on about 2 months ago. Its only 40,000v compared to 35,000 for the factery coil. So your not realy gonna feel anything unless your coil is bad. I did notice a little better throutle responce.

the stock one is 38,500....so it is little if any improvement....probably better throttle response, if you can keep the coil running

Well the 93-95 are a different model all together so thats much help, but looks like I can go ahead and stick it on and hope for the best since its allready payed for. It isnt a daily driver luckily, but I sure hope it doesnt decide to crap out when im mid track on a bottle pass. Oh well I guess that would be the lords way of telling me to build a new motor!

I've replaced my original coil on my 96 Z28 at 92K miles, thinking it was giving me problems, but it turned out to be just fine. I installed a new ACDelco one anyway.
I didn't even look for an aftermarket replacement, if the original ACDelco gave me 90K+ miles, you bet I want another one of those again.
