Anybody get this?

First time ever got any codes....engine just usually blew up.

Anyway got a P0141 (diaginosed by AUTOZONE) says heater circuit for after cat 02, Driver's side.

Had another shop do a readout and found the same code---had them delte the lite---won't do anything unless it reappears.

Anyone ever have this code? What did you do?

Thanks.

Re: Anybody get this?

Replace the catalytic converters. As for removal or replacement, that's all up to you. They will only get worse.

Re: Anybody get this?

Thanks---not an option, however. The car is a 97SS with dual Cats and it only has 9700 miles on the car.

I figure the real issue will be whether the emissions cops will not pass me---but if the lite stays out, I assume I will be ok.

Just wondered if anyone else ever got this code and what they did.

I live in Oregon and the laws are pretty strict about relocating or removing cats....you can carry AK47s in your pickup, but don't mess with the cats.JMHO

Re: Anybody get this?

You're eventually going to have to replace them. 9700 is a low amount for stock cats. We had a '02 MC SS with the same code. It got to the point where the car would barely run. That code is telling you that the cat is not performing as it should. In turn you're running the risk of failing that emissions test.

Replace your cats.

Re: Anybody get this?

The code is for a defective heater in the O2 sensor. That's a sensor problem or a wiring problem, NOT a cat problem. No need for cat replacement.

From the GM online OBD-II data bank for a 1997 LT1:

P0141

B1S2 heated oxygen sensor heater ckt

Detects a malfunctioning O2 heater circuit by comparing time to O2 activity to a calibrated threshold.

Oxygen sensor time to activity exceeds a lookup table value as a function of average flow rate.

Re: Anybody get this?

Thanks Fred. I probably won't do anything, unless the light comes on again. Had the local vendor turn out the "check engine soon" light---on the chance that it was bogus. I assume that if the 02 is boogered, or the code is triggered again, that that's the time to take care of it.

I'm sure that these things can throw out a bad code once in awhile. JMHO.
