Any suggestions on replacement clutches?

My OEM clutch is going out and I'm not sure what to go back with. I'd like to go with something better, but I'm not sure. I've been told that the A/C delco clutch is as good as any, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions? Should I upgrade my torque converter also?

I've heard good things about the AC clutches. You might wanna try Auto Zone. They sell a clutch set for around 250. Since your manual transmission doesn't have a torque converter, I don't think you need to replace it.

I dont mean to steal your post but my clutch is also going out and I'll probably have about 350 rwhp once I'm done with it in the next few months. Will another stock clutch handle this or should i upgrade, thanks.

When mine went out I figured I might as well do it right. I got a Centerforce Dual friction clutch. I paid $600 I think. It grabs like a dream. It burns the 275's on the back three times easier than the stock clutch with 245's

A slight upgrade from stock is one sold by Advance Auto Parts. It's the LT4 PP with the stock clutch disk. They sell it for $236. The pressure plate is made by Valeo, the same company that made the OEM one.

I hate to break it to everyone, but the disc that comes with the Advance Auto kit is a made in Japan piece of sh*t. Don't buy it. It is worse than stock. Spend a couple of bucks more and get something made in the USA. I put one in my bolton 95 and it sucked.

I ended up taking it out and took it down to the local clutch shop, and they told me the disc material was garbage.

I am getting a new disc made out of some new kind of material that I bet nobody here has, and for like $150. I will just reuse my old pressure-plate(centerforce ).

Also, he would have made me a new stock strength level disc for like $55.
Those kits aren't always the best, but Advance Auto gave me my money back for there $236 one. I recomend going down to a clutch shop in town and paying like $20 more than the Autozone/Advance Auto kit and get something with quality.

Thanks for the info. I realized right after I sent the post that I don't have a torque converter...duh. Anyway, FYI the LT-1 will stay stock, but I'm going to upgrade the exhaust with headers, cat & cat back. It's just a pleasure car, but I would like to make it a little faster.
