Just called both GM dealers here in town and the damn thing is marked up 300% at $75.68. I have the bolts and the seals, what im missing is the pipe, it kinked last night when I was doing valve springs and broke in half. Anyone know how I could make a custom one and who or what chain store in town might carry stainless steel hose so I can make one thats flexible and more pleasing to the eye?

I am well aware of gmpartsdirect however I want my engine in the car this weekend, so kind of in a hurry.

Thanks.

I don't know about anykind of flexible hose you could use but a brake line might work.

Cut out the kink and clamp some rubber hose on it. How's that for a cheap fix? It wouldn't be my favorite thing to do, but others have spliced out the pipe.

Well, im not looking for cheap, but I suppose that will work until I can purchase a new one at a much cheaper price since time won't be an issue then.

I always make them with braided lines and AN fittings after I cut the pipe off the parts that bolt to the back of the head with banjo bolts.

Re: Any suggestions on making a custom steam pipe?
The first time i removed my heads during a cam swap i broke the pipe - repalced it for $70. When i rebuilt the engine and removed the pipe i lost one of the bolts - you can't buy the bolt individually apparently so i paid another $70...just for the bolt (my steam pipe was virtually new). I assembled the engine and found the bolt several weeks later (it rolled off my porch into the grass somehow). :-( I feel your pain.

I have no clue where to find AN fittings and braided steel lines in town. Any chain stores carry them?

Any hot rod shop should carry them. If nothing else, there's always the board vendors. FYI, it won't be cheap to build a new pipe out of AN fittings and braided hose. Mine cost me right around $80 bucks though it is alot easier to install than the old steam pipe.

Well I know the fittings are about $15 bucks a pop and the steel hose for what? 3 feet, should be about another 20. At least it will look nice, if anything i'll use heater hose and get a stock replacement from jason.

Most of them are $5-6/ea, the only ones that are $15 are the bent hose connectors. I believe the hose itelf is like $6 a foot or something.

The bolts are available separately.

Well I figured they must be and assumed the guys at the dealer were morons and don't know how to look up a part. Turns out I am right.
