Any power in this air delivery set up..

Would there be any power in swapping from the traditional CAI set up of the LT1 to an LS1 style set up, or even to one like this .

There maybe a tad more heat soak but wouldnt the straight shot be worth it?

I know with the ram air LT1 pontiacs a similar system is used.

What does everyone think? Is it possible to convert to an LS1 style induction?

I'm going to be doing something similar, but with no MAF.

I probably wouldn't do it if I was looking for gains at the track. All the performance mods I have planned are based on racing from a roll (not as much of a heat soak issue).

I think it would loose power from drawing hot air that's been through the radiator. A cold air intake is a higher flowing version of the stock setup that draws cooler air from outside the engine compartment. Unless you isolate the filter from the engine compartment heat with something like the Impala SS guys have (a plexiglass shield that directs air from behind the grill into the air filter), you're going to be disappointed with the results.

Ducting the air from in front of the radiator would work much better but wouldn't be a large gain over a good LT1 CAI.

How do the LS1's run it than? Is there more space up there?

The fastest cammed only, stock head LT1 that I know of uses that setup. He has no MAF sensor, the air filter goes right onto the throttle body. I think its strange but considering the fact that he is almost in the tens, normally aspirated too, I won't argue with him.

Interesting...how is the pontiac ram air and LS1's set up in relation to the radiator.
