Any performance gains to be seen?

Any perfomrance gains to be seen by advancing the timing on an LT-1?

Oh not so much really. I believe the real gains are leaning out AFR.

All the timing and fueling is done through the pcm, most of us trust a proffessional to do our tuning since it is VERY reasonable. They do whatevery your application calls for as far as the timing, sometimes that will mean adding more, like Brad said though the AFR is where the real power gains are to be found.

On a bolt on car not really, you don't really need to mess with the timing until you get heads and cam.

The timing runs waaaaaaay out almost on the ragged edge as it is managed by the PCM, more than 40 degrees advanced under some circumstances if I recall correctly. It is not something you will easily or safely improve on.

Even with heads and cam your timing is changed very little. Thats why a lot of guys run good times un-tuned.

But the a/f will be way off, there's a lot of power to be picked up in a tune on a heads and cam car.

Re: Any performance gains to be seen?

Dont get me wrong, you need a tune with heads/cam. But it is still possible to run strong without one and see decent peak HP numbers. Of course the drivabilty is probably gunna be pretty crappy.

I was just saying from a timing stand point it isnt changed all that much.
