Any LT1 head porters here?
Any LT1 head porters here?
I am tearing my 94 LT1 down and getting ready for some upgrades while the engine is out of the car. I pulled the manifolds today and got a good look at the exhaust ports. There seems to be a good bit of room for porting these heads(the al. ones from a Z28), especially on the short turn. Before I start grinding I thought I would ask if there is anyone here that might have some advice for me. Anything I should watch out for, maybe an area that is too close to a water jacket? Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated. thanks...
My advice to you would be take them to some one who knows what they are doing. If you have never done it before there are several places that you only clean up and several that you spend most of your time on. There are a few people on this board that do great port work. Lloyd, Scardom from advanced inducton ect.. Look some of those up. HTH

Also the floor on the exhaust ports there is a water jacket under there.

This guy does EXCELLENT work, for $450 bucks my heads flowed 260 cfm@.650, car made excellent power, ran 90 MPH in the 1/8 mile full weight closed exhaust stock suspension, 355 with a very small 224/228@.050 112 LSA cam, 1 5/8 shorty headers.

I've got a set of Killian ported lt1 castings, and they are very good. Flowed out at 265I, 212E @28 inches water @ 550 lift with stock valve size (manley raceflo undercut). I just put a new 12.5:1 383 under them, but havn't had a chance to get to the dyno yet. All I can say though is burning through three gears in an automatic car means they are making some pretty darn good power (and I need some serious suspension work!). Really though, very high quality for the price.
