Any and all causes for a high RPM miss.

While the winter is here I have a while to sort out my high RPM miss that I was having while the car was on the road. Could you guys just list any and all causes of an high RPM miss that youve heard about or experienced? List or add to the list of every thing from the most common, to 1 in a million chance. I need to figure this thing out by spring.

some say that its the opti's rotor and point. where the spark has to jump from one piece of metal to the next. the spark looses some voltage doing this and could cuase a misfire. Also if there is any dust in the opti the spark can jump to that dust then the point causing a greater loss of spark and maybe a miss fire. Also using one coil for all 8 spark plugs isnt great for high rpm use. The LTCC uses one coil per spark plug which take off a significant strain off that one coil.

The LTCC ignition system bypasses this rotor and point. This costs about 600. There are other that that cost a little over a grand that do a lot more then the LTCC but you can always just buy the LTCC to see if it is the opti's rotor and point that is causing the miss fire and then sell it if its not.

The screws that hold the rotor in place in the opti unit, one fell out the other was loose caused a miss...bad EGR valve.

Before you do anything with the optispark change out the plugs and wires first. I had that same problem (drives fine until you either punch it or get above 4k rpms). I replaced the opti and the coil and still had the problems. Changed the plugs and wires and it solved all my problems. Form now on I will always replace the cheapest items first!

My water pump went sour and started leaking on my opti , this cause a high rpm miss, after a new WP everything was ok and the opti still runs fine to this day. I even got a little on the opti when i put my low temp TS in too , hahaha freaking opti is a trooper !! Replace the cheap ones first, coil wire, plugs wires, then opti, coil, ect. ,, good luck !
