any advantages of having 2:73 gear ratio
You know some people are going to disagree but 2.73's are terrible. Some of the faster cars I've seen have had 2.73's in them. Fastest stock Iroc I saw had 2.73's or 2.77s can't remember now...anyways he ran a 14.2x at 98 mph, the reason was the TPI had awesome torque and he actually wouldn't spin the crap outta his tires with the 2.73 gears....Another friend of mine (who joined the marines so I haven' seen him in forever) had 2.73's in his 94 and that car was just sweeeet, he wouldn't spin 'em hard off the line and the LT1 had plenty of low end grunt to pull him into the power band, seems like he was turning 14.20s to 14.40's when he was stock, he ended up getting deep into the 13's but I can't specifically remember any times so I'm not gonna guess...

Yeah, the gas mileage is a plus these days. You might also be surprised that a 2.73 cars can be as fast as a 3.23 car. It just does not "feel" as fast off the line.

not trying to be a **** bt how can 2.73's be as fast as 3.23's? so you are saying if giving the same m6 lt1 and driver it will be a even match?

They give a little more top end on the highway. You can be doing 80-85 and still downshift to second to put you in a real sweet spot of the power band for those impromptu exhibitions of speed against the mustangs and ricers
i used to love my 2.73s when i was racing from a roll. i could nail it at 35 or so and grab first. i used to jump people so bad from that speed because i could wrap out first and they were at the bottom of second. i also lost a lot of top end power when i switched to 3.73s. but with traction, the 3.73s are killer up to about 90 or 100.
There actually isn't much difference the real difference is in the "feel" which in reality doesn't mean jack...3.73's really pay off if a car builds power up top say from 4000rpm to 6500rpm it gets out out of the dead spots faster, but in the case of many street cars their sweet spot is more in the middle of the revrange say from 3000rpm to about 5200 as it is with the LT1
2.73's do give you a little traction off the line, and (theoretically) help if you're going to go against somebody from a roll (numerically higher-ratio guys will run out of gear faster). My best 60' with stock tires and 2.73's was still 2.2, more because I suck at launches than anything else, so I guess it's all in driving technique.
