ANOTHER what cam? thread
ANOTHER what cam? thread
Alright, done some searching, done some hw on cams and i need some advice on what i should go with. heres the mod list:
94 Z28 A4 (converting to T56)
stock rear w/ 3.23 gears (will go to 4.10 but not yet)
completely stock motor, 350cid, never been broken into
Jet Hot longtubes, off road Y pipe, SLP 2otl muffler
Crane Cams HI-6s ignition box and PS-92 coil
K&N CAI and trick flow elbow
descreened maf, other free mods
This car is my daily driver and has a bad opti at the moment. i plan on switching to a 95+ style opti when i do the cam swap. i might mildly port the heads but i dont have a huge budget and when i get heads, i'll go big. so i want something that will make good power on relatively stock heads without turning the motor (117K miles) to ungodly RPMs. later i will also build the motor to handle more, but for now i just want my car back.
i want to make above 350 rwhp on the stock heads with good street manners so these are the cams i've been thinking of.
TN-230HL 230/236 duration, .598"/.608", 112lsa
TN-233XR 233/239 duration, .569"/.577", 111lsa
and i've been recommended the CC306 which i cant find the exact specs for but i think its 230/244 on a 112 LSA.
any thoughts or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
thanks, kevin

Re: ANOTHER what cam? thread
your two choices seem a bit big for what you are trying to do with mildly ported heads. Are you going to bigger valves or just doing a gasket matched port job? Have you considered the hotcam kit? Around $500 will get you everything you need (cam, gm 1.6 rr's, springs to handle .525" lift, valve locks, shims, and retainers). I don't think you will see 350 rwhp but maybe close.
Re: ANOTHER what cam? thread
i definitely want to go bigger than the hotcam. i dont want to have to do another cam swap after i build the motor with a good set of heads. i want to make good power on the stock heads but with a decently low powerband, peak ~6200-6500 rpm.

You may be able to have your cake (stock heads and good power) and eat it too (same cam with better flowing heads).
