Another Roller Rocker question

I did a search on roller rockers and I still can not find a diffinitive answer. I want to buy some 1.6 roller rockers for my 93 LT1 Z28. Can I buy some that just bolt on in place of my stock ones. I visited a site that explained the process but it involved measuring the spring hieght and everything. Do I need to replace the stock springs? If so can I buy some that will replace without having to shim and all that? Do the roller rockers adjust like hydralic lifters setup (turn till clatter stops go another half turn)? Can I use my factory pushrods? Do they need to be measured? What else should I look at in doing this job?

You will need rockers that are specifically made for center bolt valve covers. I would also get S/A rockers...as far as springs...it couldnt hurt to get a new set man. I would if I was you.

Just get some LT4 springs. They will fit right in there man. The only thing you will need will be valve seals. they are cheap...
The lt4 springs are easy to change to IMO.

You should get the springs that crane matches with the rockers this should take the guess work out of it. Yes they ajdust just like you thought turn till the clicking goes away then another half turn. Don't forget to tighten the lock nut in the top of the rocker. your factory pushrods should work fine. Mine did anyways.

Another suggestion, if you are ever planning on putting in a cam get springs that have enough lift in them so you don't have to replace them when the cam is installed.

Well that is if you order universal springs, Just buy some LT4 springs on Ebay for like 40 bucks or GMPartsdirect.com and then buy some 1.6 self aligning centerbolt valve cover rockers and you will be good to go!

Thanks for all the help guys. I have been out of GM service for about 7 years and sometimes you miss alot quickly. I am a Network Administrator for the feds now. I still do all my own work and I assembled my stock car engine for my racecar but to be honest even when I worked for the dealer most everything was R&R we would not take apart a head to replace a valve or rebuild a motor. We would just put in a new one.

I went 100,000 miles on my stock springs with the crane gold self aligning 1.6 rockers. Since my head gasket blew and had heads reworked I now have better springs.

On a very aggresive cam lobe the ramp rate is higher and there is more acceleration and of course forces in the valvetrain. If you have a high lift cam it becomes important to make sure the spring is installed at the right height to acheive the proper open and closed force to control the valvetrain.

You will probably select springs that are much better than stock and therefore overkill for the stock cam so its not nearly important to measure installed height with the mild stock cam. Your heads are also stock and weren't machined for larger spring pockets or anything trick like that which would require you to double check the machined dimensions came out correctly.

Will the LT4 springs fit right in the stock spring pockets or do I need to machine? If not will the matching crane springs to the rockers fit without machining?

The LT4's will fit without machining. You may have to buy some spring locators but other than that, the springs will fit on the heads will no machining.
