Another overheating LT1

My Low Coolant light was on all last week, coolant was ok though. Then the water pump went out on Friday. Changed it on Saturday. Reman pump, new t-stat. No leaks or anything so far. But when the car sits for about 5 mins or so it starts to go towards the red on the gauge. There is a whine under the hodd that is rpm related but i believe it is the alternator, and the whine was there before i had overheating problems. The little thing that connects the two gears looked ok when i put the new pump on. But now my Low Coolant light is back on and the car is getting hot quick. Any ideas? Car is a stock 94 Formy with just catback.

Did you bleed the coolant?

It sounds like you have two seperate problems. As for the low coolant light, it is common for the sensors to go bad and malfunction triggering the low coolant dash light even though the level is good. Also, if you replaced the water pump, you most likely have an air pocket in the system causing the car to hit the read very quickly.

I agree w/ the above. My water pump was 'chirping' this morning when air was in the pump, I bled the system and topped it off. Make sure you get the car up to temp and have the thermostat open, so you really know ur adding enough coolant.

Well i let the car warm up and opened the bleeders, but i dont think anything was coming out, not even air. Could my new thermostat be bad maybe. The bleeders didnt really hiss and no coolant bubbled out.

Does it shoot coolent all over your engine bay when you bleed them? Or do you only open them a slight amount?
