another opti thread

my car (see sig) has 160k miles on it, and 160k on original opti, the wires and plugs have about 40k miles on them (havent pulled them to check them yet)

when i got the car (almost 2k miles ago or about 2 months or so) it had an ever so slight miss under 1500 RPM, but once it got over 1500 it ran fine.

in the last couple weeks it got worse and the problem area got up into 2k RPM and lower, but today it got horrible. it stumbles in almost all RPM's kinda badly, both during acceleration and cruising. there are no codes, also when the car starts cold it has a pop or quick knock when it finaly fires

does this sound like typical opti failure?

Re: another opti thread

It could be opti related. If you have 160k on your car right now. I'd just replace the opti and waterpump anyways. If so they could be ready to go at anytime and leave you stranded.

Re: another opti thread

the damn shop replaced the plugs and plug wires which did nothing (against my wishes), then fixed a leaking injector which i knew nothing about....after this they decided hell i was right, replaced the opti and it runs flawlessly.....also had them throw on a water pump as advised by Z95m6....heres my Q

they said the water pump needs to sit over night for some reason. my dad relayed this message to me on the phone jsut now and he doesnt know what they said exactly. are the gaskets on these pumps silicone and need to dry or something?

No, these cars are hard to bleed the air out, because th engine sit higher then the radiator. letting it sit over night should ensure that all of the air is out and prevent any over heating problems.

Nothing should NEED to sit that long unless they are being overly cautious about their application of RTV, if they even chose to use any.

Multiple bleeder valves make bleeding air out of the coolant very fast.

Yeah, I know. There is one on the therm housing and one on the heater hose. Your point is?

I was trying to answer his question,to why they wanted to keep it over night.

Summary of Original Question: Why would the shop want to keep my car over night?

Summary of Robs97Z28's answer: Getting the air out of the coolant is hard and takes a long time.

Summary of my input: Gettting the air out of the coolant is NOT hard and should NOT take a long time.

Guess we are in the same boat then.

Re: another opti thread

Most likely they wanted the RTV to set up, which is funny because I've slapped mine on and fired her right up about 5 times.
