Unhappy Another One Bites The Dust

Well, Its happening to me, have been running low oil pressure for awhile and it running at 5psi at idle and can not get it to 40 at WOT. Anyways, anyone have any good suguestions where I could find a low mileage LT1. Also the LT1 in the corvette with the 4 main bolt up to my 94 m6 tranny. Rebuild ?

Thanks Mark Tisdale

It is sad the car doesn't even have 80,000 miles on it and I didn't even beat it up.

Sorry to hear that, but are you just going by the pressure, or are there other problems with the engine, don't want to chuck an engine because of a bad sending unit or something else small. By the way, im just north of you at Langley AFB.

Before you jump off the bridge, make sure the gage is reading correctly. If it is try using thicker oil, like 10w40 or 20w50.

If his oil pressure truly is that low, and it's not a faulty sending unit, what do you think the thicker oil is going to do? It would be like putting a bandaid on a broken leg, it's not going to cure the underlying problem at all.

If the gauge was at zero, then I would check the pickup. If it's just very low, then you've probably got some big problems.

Yes, the 4-bolt LT1 motor will bolt directly up. The only thing different w/ the two blocks are the number of main studs.

I think that the manual says that the oil preasure is supose to be 6psi @ 1000 rpm. My car does exactly what you are talking about and I have put over 40,000 on it since I bought it. I think that it is just the nature of our motors, I mean lower oil preasures than the older 350 motors.

Unhappy

I am running 10w-40 and the car idles at 5psi. The valvetrain is getting louder and you can hear a lifter pretty loud. When I got the car it had a bad intake manifold gasket at 65,000. I replaced it a week after I purchased it. Probably was neglected by owner, and I am going to pull the car off the road and get a beeter and save up for another motor. Since the replacement the oil pressure got lower slowly.

Thanks for the help and if anyone can help me with a low milage LT1 down the road, that would be great.

Yeah, 5 is WAY to low. Mine idles at 20psi. Make sure the sending unit is functioning right. If it is the correct pressure, sorry to hear. Personally, i would just rebuild the engine instead of buying one because you cant be to sure how long the used one will last either. Plus, you could rebuild it into a monster.

your in Va bch, im in norfolk, im in the process of having my motor rebuilt here locally and it is costing me $300 -$500 in machine work and the includes, clean, hone and freeze plug the block, shave half the dome off my Twr pistons, redo my crank, replace the valve guide seals on my heads & clean them, put new ARP connecting rod bolts in the rods, press in the new cam bearings, and assemble the bottom end..... pistons and all the parts cost me about $300.... i do all the labor on my car so i dont pay there...

if you need some help you can email me at slowassta@***.net

btw are you on tidewaterracing.com ..... thats a pretty cool site for the locals...
