Another oil pressure problem
Another oil pressure problem
Had my motor rebuild cuz my oil pressure was at like 3psi @ idle and got crank polished..
SO they installed a new oil pump; new sending unit and at Idle the mechanic said its @ 6psi b/c the oil pump is set to that at idle.. i think its BS what could he have done wrong? or was it just the wrong pump? Even at like 2500 its aint even close to the 1/4 mark on the guage
Any suggestions..
thanks

Re: Another oil pressure problem
yeah hes like raise ur idle upto 1100 rpm its at 800 now
but before i had all this trouble the pressure was normal so i think im gettin hooped..
Could it be a smaller oil pump or somthing
cuz he got one and the tube didnt fit into mine so he had them bring him a new one w/ a larger tube

Re: Another oil pressure problem
What a retard.
The oil pump is a mechanical device that pushes oil. It determines flow only, not pressure. The clearance in the bearings determines the pressure. The reason pressure goes up with rpms is because the oil pump is trying to push more fluid through the same "gap". The oiling system also has a pressure relief valve to determine max pressure.
Him saying "wrong oil pump" really seems shady, to me. I'd call him back and ask him to tell you the truth, or else if he knows what he's doing. I don't think many engines appreciate 6 psi of pressure. It's hard to say what's wrong, but if the crank was cut and the stock size bearings were used the clearances would be excessive which would make oil pressure low. To really figure out what it is the engine will probably have to come apart and everything will have to be measured. You might want to check for anything obvious, wrong oil filter, whatever...
It just amazes me what excuses people will come up with to cover their butts....
