Another lt1 rebuild question.
Another lt1 rebuild question.
As some may recall my previous post regarding having my lt1 rebuilt, I have another question. As some may have seen it the vender advertisements, Powertrain products has listed on their site of new never used lt1 shortblocks, assembled; minus the cam and timing chain (as I understood it). It would be 1100.00 dollars shipped to the houston area. Would this be a good way for me to go, Id planned on upgrading the cam and certainly would have the heads rebuilt as well. Or would it be better to just rebuild the orginal engine as one unit? Car is no longer a daily driver so time is not an issue as far as getting it back on the road.
One last question would be about car being orginal. I bought car new, and plan on keeping it. If I changed the block would that do anything to the future value of the car, just say I were to keep it for another 20 years or so?
As always I trust and appreciate the opinions I get on this board, so any suggestions on what "you" would do are welcome. I am doing this project on a budget(money is tight) but it will also be done right. Even if I have to go back with a bone stock lt1 for now. Figure if its built right I can upgrade later, if I have to go that route.

I have had a shop quote me a price on rebuilding my engine, which includes all the machine work, head job, new pistons, bearings pressure test for around 1200.oo. This is minus a new cam so have to add that to the price. He aslo said that as anyone would know that you really dont know until you get inside and see what you have to work with. I was planning on going back basicaly stock with the exception of the cam, and seeing what I can do with my heads. In my post several weeks ago I mentioned going with a lt4 hotcam kit and roler rockers. I believe Injuneer informed me that without a good tune to the ecm I would be wasting my money. With that info, I will find the funds for having it tuned. Just trying to give some info on what Im ultimately trying to achieve here. I guess to sum it up I want a good streetable car with a bit more than it had stock.
