Another engine noise question
Another engine noise question
I have searched the "engine noise" threads for about an hour and can't find anything similar to what I am experiencing.
I have the normal clicking and ticking that I would expect from a 130,000 mile car. Lord knows the car could use a few upgrades like cam, rr's, lifters, pushrods, springs, aw hell - I need a new engine, O.K!?
At any rate, over the past 2 days my little oil covered 96 LT1 has developed an odd sound that seems to be originating under the valve covers (yes, I seem to hear it on both sides of the engine). It is not quite a "squeak" but more of a "chirp...chirp...........chirp...............chirp ..chirp. It doesn't seem to have any rhyme or steady pattern to it.
It is a somewhat muffled noise and I have not tried taking the belt off to see if it stops because like I said it doesn't seem to be coming from that far forward. I just wanted to know if anyone has run into this kind of thing before I start taking stuff apart and turning bolts.
Thanks in advance and sorry for the lame description!

I had that same exact noise and it ended up to be.... well I believe it was a header bolt. Don't ask me how but it was. Dunno if it is the one by the alternator, but it definately was that. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the responses! I don't have headers but it does sound like something loose. Since there is no pattern to the noise I keep thinking it is something vibrating and rubbing together.
Maybe it will go ahead and fall off soon!
Any other ideas?
