Another "which cam should I get" thread........

I want to do a cam and rocker arm install in the next few months and would like to get some ideas of what will get the results I'm looking for.

The only mods I have are LT headers, off road ypipe, and catback, and I don't plan on doing anything other mods after the cam install....at least for a good year or two.

What I'm looking for:
1. doesn't need to rev too high to make a lot of power. maybe 6000rpm would be good?

2. has a nice choppy idle.

3. makes decent power but I don't want to sacrifice #1 and #2 just to get an extra 10hp. I rarely drag race and drive the car normally 95%.

4. driveability isn't too much of a factor because the car is only a "fun" car and only gets driven 3000-4000 miles a year.

If you aren't looking to go crazy.... do the hotcam kit especially if you keep the revs down. Just look at SteveO's thread.

I have to agree here The HOT cam is hard to beat on DD/Good sound and performs decently for what it is.

I would also have to agree, all though I was shocked you didn't recommend that he goes with a cam from BRE.

I have had the CC305 in my daily driver (summer/nicedays) with 140,000 miles on her 30,000+ on the cam install. I put this cam in at 110,000 and have beat this **** at of it at every time I get a chance. I went with a 1.5RR instead of the usual 1.6RR this brought the lift to 510'' instead 544'' and also tamed the duration down (220/230). This cam is sweet pulls like a **** at early on 2500rpms but once you hit 3500rpms and up it will just blow any radial street tire off 2nd, 3rd, . With my borla capped and 3inch threw the cat it didnt even sound like it had a cam until I opened the cutout. I never regretted not going to a GM847 or CC306 because this cam has a great broad power curve with our factory 3.42's. This is still on a stock tune running pretty pig rich when I was datalogging it. Just make sure also after install check your spark knock count. I was getting up to 9* to 11* false knock even with the Lt4 Knock module. I verified it was false knock and just wired the knock sensor out with a 4700ohm resistor so it would not pull timing. Huge difference in power from getting my timing back. Also I went with COMP R lifters (old style before clip failures) because of the miles on my car. You should be able to get away with your stock lifters because your TA is awsome low miles on it. I would also go with the hotcam witch is close to the CC305 Im running great for the price. With the cc305 I used ISKY valve springs from thunderracing and there comp hardened pushrods (You will need Hardened if you use guideplates and non self alinging roller rockers).
Later,
josh

custom cam..or 503. choppy idle, strong powerband, and drivability is like the hotcam but a lot more power.
