another 9c1 into camaro
another 9c1 into camaro
Ok, I've spent hours searching on this board and have not found quite what Im looking for on this project. I did however see one post stating you cant use the computer from the Caprice in the Camaro with the complete swap. Is this true? It shows on the hollander interchange that they will work.... Also, can I change the tailshaft on the tranny and use the caprice trans without any complications? I just bought a 94 Z-28 with 130,000 miles on it for $600 and a 94 caprice 9c1 with the LT-1 in it for $800. Can I just take the motor, trans, and computer and swap it straight in or do I need to find a computer and different trans? The guy I bought the Z from cut the engine harness where it comes out of the firewall on passenger side and pulled everything out. But, I **May** be able to get the harness and computer from him... but thats a big maybe. Also how much of the extras can I use from the caprice, like the trans cooler, HD hoses and all the stuff like that? It would be nice to have better than average hoses. I know I'll have to use the camaro intake duct work and probably exhaust manifolds.... anybody know for sure on those? What about the a/c, alt, and ps pump? I know a lot of people have done the swap so please give me some pointers. And before the posts come in tellin me to change the iron heads and the cam, Im leaving them alone for now. I've already read about all the facts on those, and also before I get asked, yes Im sure its not the baby LT1. Not trying to sound like an *******, but i've seen the other threads where those questions get out of hand and argued about so much the question doesnt get answered for a long time. Thanks in advance to anybody that can shine some light on this.
The pcms year to year are the same PN it is just the programing inside that is different, all you need is a reflash.
Tranny I think swapping the tailshaft housing will work.
Accessories would be easiest if you just ran the f-body bracket. A friend just dropped a car off at my house for a rebearing and I was a bit disappointed to find what he had had to do to put the f-body accessories and bracket in a b-body, not pretty but it works. In hindsight he wishes he would have held onto his motor and swapped that all over. In his case though he blew a motor and found an f-body motor and T56 he swapped in, so he is happy but says there was a torque loss at low speeds.
The 9C1 oil cooler just uses air to blindly cool the oil wether it needs it or not, I will take a system that uses coolant to REGULATE tempature over that any day.
The 9C1 hoses while yes are lifetime rated are SOFT and the unconventional routing you will need to do here will likely lead to slow damage, something like the Goodyear HiMiler kit is a step up from rubber at a good price in a nice complete kit.
Yes use the f-body exhaust manifolds.

thanks 96caprice, Lots of good info. The tourqe loss your friends noticing is probably the cam from that Fbody lt1. Im sure you know all about that, but for anybody that doesnt and reads through here, the cam in the fbody lt1 is set up for higher speed, where the caprice/impala ss is set up for tourqe to get that big car movin. Anywhos, thanks for all the input, im gonna have to try to get the manifolds and accy brackets from the dude. Would you reccomend the oil coolers that come with their own fan and temperature switches?
