Annoying people again, LTs vs Gears?

Simple vote from all, I can do one or the other. I was thinking gears, these 2.73s blow. But some Jet-Hot LTs just sound so nice to me right now. I think I've got $1400, bet I could eek em both out, only problem is I don't have a garage or tools here. Need some buddies in the area. =( Will pay beer for work help. (We're talkin kegs here buddy).

Oh another question, my EGR is fied, I've got another coming in the mail, just wondering if that would hinder performance? For some reason it seems to me it wouldn't from what I understand... but maybe I'm off here. Oh and I obviously don't want to do my TC just yet I'm waiting for the right time to jump on her.

Stock Cam = LT's
Bigger Cam = Gears

Get longtube headers. Gears won't add HP but will make you quicker off the line while longtube headers actually add power.

Your gonna come out with the same increase in performance more than likely. If it were a 3.23 car I would say LT's but right now if I were in your shoes it would indeed be a tough decision. I think I wouold get gears first. Then the LT's.

thanx for the replies guys. I guess I'll see what falls in my lap. Jet-Hot's two pay system may be what wins out. =)

I'd go with Long Tubes...gears in some cases don't make as big a difference as people think...sure the car feels faster but when you actually get it to the track many come away disappointed...in fact most of the people I know have come away disappointed after a gear install...but the car feels hella fast.

you'd have to change your carrier for your gears...

but, why dont you leave the gears alone, and spend that 1400 on some headers, and some nice porting on your heads? $600 for the headers, and the $800 for the heads... Lloyd Elliot charges $350 for porting...the rest can go for installation.

well strange makes some 2 series gears, but i hadn't thought about heads, but i wouldn't really see a benefit from them without a good cam, maybe cam and headers?

Gears plus install should be less than $600. Then get some drag radials. I'm sure that will yeild better a et than the the long tubes.

I'd go with long tube headers. Unlike the gears, headers will actually give you more horsepower.

As for your EGR question, the only way it will effect performance is if the valve is stuck open. In that case your car would idle pretty rough.

The EGR will dramatically screw up your gas mileage, but hey it can't get much worse right? Your performance won't be affected though.

Anyway, I have 2.73's too and am about to order the Strange 3.73's myself. If you could squeak out both, do it!
If not, start with the gears, I know how you feel with the granny gears, it sucks having alot of your power not getting anywhere.

How far is Blacksburg from Va Beach? My neighbor with an LS1 Formula just did his by himself and has the necessary tools.
