Anniversary SS Filter??
Anniversary SS Filter??
I've been trying to order a K&N air filter for this '97 Anniversary SS. Seems K&N says they don't sell one for this car, yet I found one web site that claims they sell a K&N for the car. When I asked them about it they said they might have a typo on the web site... so I'm back to square one.
Surely somebody out there has a 97' SS with a highflow filter, if you do could you shed some light on this? (maybe even a part number)
Thanks,
Brian

Holley claims that they have one that fits 221-5. Don't know about that, but that's what their site says too.
K&N doesn't make a filter for the 96/97 SS per se, but their jeep filter has same dimensions and will fit.
They claim that it doesn't seal well and that's why they don't recommend using it.
Check out the Holley and let me know what you find out.
I believe the Jeep is a 33-2084 or something like that.

Hey Cream: Do me a flavor and see which way the pleats go, i.e., front to back (verticle) right to left (horizontal).
If they are indeed verticle the panel should should be ridgid front to back.
The flimsly/warped box becomes a non-issue if you can seal the bottom of the panel to the box.
I ordered a new top to the box and it came with a bit of a warp in it from SLP.
Lost a clamp once and by the time SLP was able to fill my order, I received 2 lids and 0 clamps. Made out on that deal. Went to local dealer and picked up clamp for $1.65.
One of the rare occasions when the buyer makes out.

This has been kicked around this board for months. There is another K&N that fits. It is not the Jeep one! Go to http://www.lgmotorsports.com/OCLT1_Fbody_Induction.htm.
I advise getting the Holley if it is the same size as stock and the pleats are vertical as we have heard that they are.
This should eliminate accordion action and if you can keep it tight to the seat you should be in business, especially if it is made of the same materials that the K&Ns are made of.
Please let me know what you get, how it fits and how much you paid.
I will probably get one too.
Thanks.

putting an OEM SS hood and airbox have been my winter project this year, The SS air box I bought was from a 96 SS owner it aleady had the K&N installed in it when I got it. I have a Holley version ordered that ought to be here in the next few days, and when it shows up I'll do a side by side comparison and let you know what I come up with. The hood is painted and installed, but haven't had the chance to put the airbox assembly on yet. I had read about the poor fit with the K&N so figured I'd try the Holley and then get it all together before installing it. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks. The Holley 221-5 is the their version of the K&N 33-2084 Jeep filter, so it should be the same size. As I mentioned, the way the pleats go is the important difference.
You should notice right off that the Holley is (should be) more rigid front to rear.
Again, the main problem is the warped box which doesn't even provide a good seal for the stock filter.
I found that using 3/8 3-M 2-sided tape works pretty well to seal the filter, and it is not that difficult to remove when cleaning the filter. JMHO
