angling long tube collectors for ground clearence.

Thought I'd ask this again....

Has any one sucessfully cut and re-welded Hooker LT collectors to gain ground clearence? My car is lowered and I might have 3" of clearence. This would be my first step in getting this 4" exhaust tucked up higher.

thanks, Scott.

The entire exhaust hangs pretty low and I plan on getting it tucked up higher (mufflex y-pipe and 4"catback). The collectors will still be a problem though, as they are real close to the ground. Anyone modified LT headers(collectors) to deal with ground clearence issues?

thanks again.

Can I ask again? I think Jordan Musser might have done this...

I do think you can cut them and angle them up. You will run into the floorpan brace that is under the drivers feet.

To do it right ya have to cut each tube where it turns toward the back and snug them to the floor and reweld all 8 tubes. Not hard but time consuming. I was charged 300.00 on a customers car that wanted a set of Hedman's tucked, looked good when the welder got through and 1/2" clearance to the collector, from the floor and they were streight and parellel with the floor.. That wasn't at a muffler shop but a race car fab shop.

you should probably just get some different LT's that are tucked up closer to the car.

What type of motormounts are u running? I would try "taller" motormounts, like some poly ones, which would raise the motor and therefore the headers up closer to the floor boards. Never done this myself, but just a thought.

My friend did this with his Hooker LT car and it helped the situation some but they still hang really low. Hookers just hang low, thats all there is to it.

My Pacesetters tuck up really tight. There is no way to tuck them up any tighter without them rubbing the floor brace on the drivers side.

My car is lowered, and they still scrape speed bumps if i dont hit them right, but they are perfectly drivable on a lowered car if you are carefull.

Why not just buy a flangeless header, like PaceSetters or something like that.
