Am I missing my pcv valve???

Just aftter getting home, I noticed a burning oil smell. I opened the hood and it looked like it was comming out where the pcv valve sits on the valve cover. So I thought my pcv valve was stuck and I needed a new one. So I pulled off the plastic elbow and all there was was the rubber seal on the valve cover. So i took that off too, and there was nothing there. Am I missing somthing??? Or has my car been running without a pcv valve since i bought it???

The thingy you unplugged from the passenger side valve cover is just a hollow elbow connector that is just some emission control venter "i believe". Too bad it isn't the actual location for the PCV valve; because, it would make it so much more easier to replace. The real location on my 97 is situated in a knuckle scaping location under many clusters of tubes, wires, brackets on the driver's side. I'm changing mine in a while and am not relishing the idea of departing with all the skin of my knuckles on my right hand.

The elbow and line on passenger side from the TB is the INTAKE side for air into the PCV system.. [air goes from TB to valve cover into engine then PCV [on drivers side] evacuates it...
