Aluminum Intake ANYONE?

What's Up with these Aluminum intakes on Ebay?? They are much cheaper than the plastic Cold Airs like the K&N and SLP and promise 5-12 HP (similiar to K&Ns..). I have to admit $100 is very tempting for a brand new one. ANyone ever tried these? Is the perfomance increase similiar to the $200 CAIs? The only thing I can think of is they may begin to discolor in a few years.. and I can live with that!

The filter looks alot smaller. And aluminum you have to worry about it absorbing heat, vs plastic.

This isn't just any ordinary intake. It's "Stage 2"...

Looks like a great way to blow $100 on something that is total crap. Go spend 60 more and get a LPE one. At least you know you'll get 12 at the wheels stock. Get something with a good name behind it and that may just have been dyno tested.

I wonder how much the "stage 1" costs, and I guess that one would only make 3-5hp Seriously though, it looks like a decent CAI to me for the price, and at least the ad makes some very reasonable claims for HP gains. From home made to the most expensive CAI, they all give about the same HP gains, they're not rocket science.

same intakes imports are using. tons of genaric kits out there that do the exact same thing as AEM or other brands. A brand name does not always mean a better product. The intakes you see on ebay WILL make power.

However, I like the K&N and Moroso (etc) design and materail ALOT better than than the aluminum intakes you saw on ebay.

OH, and stage 1 most likely is a short ram intake which draws air from inside the engine bay. This increasing trottle response but also increases intake air temps. The stage 2 would be a cold air design which draws air from either under /front of the car or the passenger/driver front whell well. These are a longer tube which decreses throttle respnse but pulls in air from outside the engine bay resulting in lower air intake temps.
