Alternator wiring

I have just removed my stock PCM and I'm using the stand alone Accel DFI harness. I am having problems getting the alternator to start charging. I guess I need to know where the harness with the single red wire from the alternator needs to be hooked to? I know on the 3rd gens that single wire was just hooked to the battery. Any help would be appreciated.

The big wire goes to any positive battery junction. The smaller wire goes to the gauge. If you don't have a gauge or tell-tale lamp, run it to a 12v source with a 470 ohm resistor inline (you must have the resistor).

Thanks Rob. Ok, I just replaced the alternator and it started charging (I hooked that wire to a 12v accessory before I read your post). So I can find the wire that comes through the passenger side firewall (old PCM location) in my old harness that went to my voltage gauge and the red wire hooks to it? Does that apply even though the stock PCM is no longer present? Also, trying to get my temp gauge working. I am just hooking up the single green wire from the block temp. sensor to what I think should be the correct wire (still at the old PCM passenger side firewall) that goes to the temp sensor gauge. Should this function without the PCM present? Once again help is greatly appreciated.

Neither of those wires actually go into the PCM, so there should be no problem. Look for the dk green wire in cavity "K" of C220 and also find the red wire in cavity "A".

Rob - I verified the wires were connected. So far I have only the tach, temp sensor and voltage but still nothing on the gauges.

Thanks.

Would this help at all? It is a 95 cluster. The 1997 may be different.
