Question Is the alternator supposed to block the dipstick?

I have a '94 T/A with the 5.7L V8 and T56 6 speed manual. I was check all the fluids today and found the dipstick to be right behind the alternator. I have checked the RPO codes and have found that I have a 140 Amp alternator (KG9-GENERATOR, 140 AMP). But is it still supposed to be right in front of the dipstick? Or can you still take it out? My T/A has some custom work done by the previous owner (custom welded longtube headers, welded MagnaFlow exhaust to chassis, skip shift eliminator) so I was wondering if maybe they customized the alternator too and some how the dipstick ended up right behind it. Or is that just how it is with all LT1's? I didn't even try to take it out for fear of splashing oil on the alternator or not being able to but it in. And I would have taken pics but it's dark now.

Another question I had was, is it normal for oil pressure to go up as revs go up? My Vic had dummy gauges, which basically don't do much, so oil pressure always marked the same. The T/A does have an oil cooler, and it does make sense for oil pressure to increase as RPM's go up. But I was just wondering. Well, thanks.

Sounds like they put the dipstick in the wrong location. You should be able to find plenty of under hood pics to show the stock location.

Yes the oil pressure should increase with rpm's. You want 10+ psi at idle and atleast 40 psi at WOT.

Alright thanks bro. I guess I'll have to check the dipstick thing out. I'm assuming this is what it's supposed to be like, but that's not how it is on mine. Maybe they moved it due to the custom headers or something? But now it sits like right behind the alternator, facing it. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

If you have the dipstick in a different location then from the pic you provided. Then the previous owner moved it.

they may have just have bent the dip stick tube down toward the alternator on yours, and it is normal for the oil pressure to rise w/ rpm if it didnt you would have a problem

From looking on the underside the dipstick should go straight up from the oil pan and tip slightly forward about where the headers are mounted. There is also a bolt that holds the stem in place about 3" or so from the oil pan- again straight above where it comes out.

If for some reason it is no longer possible for the stock dipstick to work in its original location there are aftermarket ones out that should be able to work for you.
