Alternator squaking...can i fix it?

Alternator squaking...can i fix it?

hey guys, my alternator squakes a bit..it charges ok etc, so i dont really want to buy a new one. Is there a way to fix the squak? Can i take the whole thing apart? Wha should i use to clean it inside? Oh yeah...how the heck do i remove the nutt that hold the pully on the alternator..its a big *** nutt, and its on there very tight

Are you sure that it is your alternator and not the belt?

If so you might try these guys http://www.alternatorparts.com/ to see if they have a rebuild kit for our alternators.

The easiest way to remove the pulley nut is with an impact wrench, otherwise you are going to have to find some way to hold the pulley (maybe one of those strap wrenches).

If it is the alternator and not the belt, you could try tapping the outter casing of the alternator with a hammer. Sometimes this will move it just enough to stop the noise. Dont drive it home, but a few good taps may fix it. However, i dont recomend this method, and dont blame me if it messes something up. I would take the alternator off to see if it actually was the alternator itself turning and not the belt.
