What is the "proper" way to stop the alternator from spinning to loosen the nut that holds the pulley on? I can think of plenty of way to get the job done but what is the correct way. I looked in my GM service manual and it did not explain how it should be done.

 

at o'reilly's we just use an electric impact... but that doesn't mean its the right way.
