Alternator Cutoff

As a former NHRA Stock Eliminator racer we used to put an alternator cutoff switch in the car. After the burnout you cut it off and after you cross the finish you flip it back on.
Can this be done on a 94 LT1 and if so which wire do you put the switch on?
Thanks,John

Probably the small wire for the "exciter" and gauge. It uses voltage on that wire to tell the regulator to turn on. If you were to put a switch on the output (cable going to the battery), the alt would probably burn up due to trying to provide too much voltage to an open connection.

I don't take responsibility for what might happen in either case. You might want some more opinions.
