Alternatives to opti..

Besides carborated, what are other options? I remember seeing something on GMHightech about an LT1 distributor change....

I think it is deltech that makes a set up that deletes/or bypasses the opti. If I understand correctly it takes the voltage out of the opti. I'll look for the link

Re: Alternatives to opti..

Delteq's current system uses the optical signals from the Opti to feed the stock PCM and a "black box" that drives the Northstar ignition driver and 4 waste-spark coils from a Northstar. They have inidcated that they are working on an upgrade that totally removes the need for the Opti pulse signals, but about 8 months have gone by, and no news.

Bailey LTCC uses a similar setup, taking the Opti signals to feed the stock PCM and a "black box" that drives 8 direct fire LS1-style coils. I have a similar setup using a MoTeC M48Pro engine management computer and their IEX 8-channel ignition driver.

If you don't need to keep the factory PCM (speedo, fuel pump activation), you can use any ignition system you want. There was an extensive thread on Advanced Tech about a year ago that covered a number of possibilities, including the FAST/eDIS system, using a homemade cam position sensor.

And to be really different, find one of the 20 or so Electromotive Super Direct Ignition/Opti-Eliminators, that totally bypassed the Opti, but suffered from a few "problems" and was discontinued. I ran without the Opti for 2 years running one of those setups.
