My alternater started makind a loud squiking noise; sounds like squiking breaks.I think the bearing in side is going out.The car is not discharging so can I just take it apart and eather replace the bearing or repack it with grease.Or do I need a new alternater.The car is a 96 z28.Thanks

 

Typically, if it is making noise it is on it's way out. I'm not sure if the bearings are serviceable.

 

Mines had made noise for the last few years, for what ever reason, it still works, original one from 93.

 

Mine is the origional one from 96.
