almost stock LT1 runs 12.2 in GM high tech
almost stock LT1 runs 12.2 in GM high tech
Has anyone seen the new GM high tech magazine article on the 97 WS6 Trans am that is nearly stock and ran a 12.25 at 108 in the 1/4.
THe car has only has 3:73 gears, 3000 stall, Electric water pump, Slp shorties, with y-pipe and loudmouth exhaust, and weld draglites.
The car weighs 3378 pounds. The pictures show his interior, and there is just a drivers seat, and it is a light weight aftermarket one. There is no passenger seats at all.
HOw much weight could you lose from taking out all the seats and installing a light weight aftermarket seat like he did.
I am thinking about losing some weight now on my car, I have some of the same mods this guy has, and I am no where near 12.2. what esle can we do to lose some weight on our F-bodys.

Do a search for "weight reduction". It should give you a lot of examples.
Some right off the top of my head:
rear seats
passenger seat
spare tire
jack
aftermarket k-member
lightweight wheels
remove styrofoam from front and rear bumper
etc...

I have to agree that front cover was a little misleading. It should have said on a stock shortblock instead. Those are still some nice numbers for the mods that he has. Looked like a pretty mean car.
I Don't think the cover was misleading. The cover said "Stone stock LT1 goes 12.26" and it is a stone stock LT1. Remember that LT1 means the motor, not the car. He did have all the bolt on's but the long block was the way it left the factory. It just proves that drag racing is all about weight reduction and 60' times.
I laughed when I saw the "LT1 runs 12.2 stone stock" quote on the cover too, before I opened it I was like uhhhhh... suuuure it is. That's an incredible time he's running for the mods he has but I don't know why Johnny would put that quote on the cover.

From the looks of it he didn't have a lot taken out of the car other than the interior. It'd be great if we got a bolt on lt1 into the 11s, all these ls1s are making me jealous.
it said stone stock lt1,
the lt1 is the motor which was stone stock w/ the exception of the 1.6 rockers, which some say is a bolt on,
the heads where stock also i believe,
the car on the front ( the blue/ green z28) is not the fastest lt1 either.......

Thats the major bolt-ons
. And yes, it is a quite impressive car.
