I plan on adding one to my car some day. One thing i will mention is that the aluminum ones are more prone to breaking. I think i have heard of some breaking with only 300rwhp on a good launch.

going from a steel to an aluminum DS will help reduce vibrations at high speeds as well as provide a small weight reduction in the turning mass.

IT is quite a bit lighter than the steel one..
Get a 1LE not an LS1 shaft if you can[ noone has broken a 1LE that I have heard of..
The LS1 's are a bit weak..
They are very close to the same price new..
If I recall my 1LE cost 232 new about 2 yrs ago..

for the significant reduction in vibration, and the 1hp/5# torque that you gain...i would say it's worth it.

Re: Is an alluminum drive shaft worth the $$$

Depends on your application. An Al shaft is not suitable for a hi-po car launching on sticky tires. But I'd say it's a worthwhile upgrade for a mild setup. The strongest Al shaft I am aware is the HD Al shaft from Denny's. However, at ~$480 it's far from cheap. Denny's also has a "light-duty" 3.5" Al shaft for ~$325 that would be adequate for most street cars. Lingenfelter also markets a 3.5" Al shaft that is nice. Another good source for shafts is Dynotech at http://www.dynotechengineering.com/ who also offer a HD Al shaft as well as lighter ones. I used to exclusively use Denny's but the customer service and turnaround at Dynotech seems better, even though Denny's is local (for me). So, I have switched. Denny's makes a good product though.

no point in dropping the money on a carbon fiber DS. as stated before, if you want something strong you can check out the aluminum and steel lines that Denny's offers. 1LE is prolably the least expensive alternative if you want strength.

10085375 is the 1LE DS, that's a good one to get.
