All those using guide plates inside, please

I'm doing a non self-aligning conversion on my '93 LT1. The rockers are COMP 1.6 Pro Magnum rollers, the studs are ARP, the Guide plates are COMP "flat", the pushrods are COMP 7.200" COMP Hi Tech. My question is: Are the rockers supposed to be canted? When looking at the exhaust rocker and intake rocker side by side, they aren't parellel. The tips look to be farther apart than the pushrod end. Is this normal? The tips look to be on center on the valve tips.

Your golden. They are like that. Also make sure that the center roller section is installed the correct way. The side with the recess should be up, so that the nut fits down and tightens against the recess. The other side is smooth.

Actually, I just did a search, and found one that states that LT1's have different valve spacing than normal SBC. Thus, the normal SBC guide plates won't work. Apparently GM Perf. Parts has a set that will work. Anyone else using the GM # 14011051 plates? The slots are supposed to be .050" farther apart to center up the roller tips on the valves.

Maybe i misunderstood what your said?

The pushrod tips should be centered within the rocker tips, but the intake and exhaust rockers wll be slanted into one another (not parellel). As for the SBC chevy guide plates being different, i have never heard that before, but it wouldnt suprise me either.

I read that post too, and I was concerned about it, hut when I put on my roller rockers with CC guideplates, all of the rollers appeared to be centered on the valve stems so I'd say you're okay.

i went with guide plates from thunder racing. They were only 2.50 a piece and they were GM parts as they came in the original GM packages. I don't have the part numbers. They fit fine.

Traditional pre LTx heads have a valve spread of 1.850". The LTx head has a valve spread of 1.910". Don't know what source the search led you to, but I have commented on this in the past, here.

I am familiar with, and have purchased the #1051 plate in the past. UNlike most guide plate available, these SHOULD mate ok with the LTx heads. A couple of notes of caution however. Verify that there is adequate pushrod clearance in the bottom/depth of the plate slot. Also, don't expect the arms to line up well with the plates centered on the stud. Expect the need to shift the plate around a little to get a satisfactory alignment. IOW, don't just bolt in the plates and automatically expect a good alignment. It is gonna take scrutinizing and 'monkeying around'.

Those are what I had, and they DON'T align the rockers properly. Pull your covers and you'll see what I mean.
