Maybe im missing something here...
Ken no offense taken man, I've been down this road before, LOL. I can assure you the only thing stretching the limits of "Bolt-On" was the 1.7 rockers. There are quite a few folks on here that can vouch for me.
I'll e-mail you tomorrow on the whole set up as I don't want to hijack this thread.

SAR2K or anyone else, can you answer these 2 questions? Thanks!
2. Would this allow the engine to rev higher, allowing higher shift points?
3. Would I benefit from a custom tune for the increased lift?

Whiteboy,
Yes it will rev higher. You will need to replace the valvesprings to use 1.7s and that will allow you to rev higher.
Yes, IMO you benefit from a custom tune on a stock car. Granted its only a couple HP, but its still a good value/bang for the buck.
Sar2k,

There is no reason to use GP with SA rockers. It will work but you also could run into trouble. Many people recommend against it because of the possiblity of bind. If the SA guides on the tip have a smaller range than the guideplates than the pushrods will never even contact the guidplates or vice versa. The 2ndary alignment would be extra or redundant. However, if the guideplates are not aligned right it could cause binding which would not be good. I can tell you from experience that i ran guideplates with SA rockers for about 75 miles or so. Why? because comp packaged 15 SA and 1 nonSA rocker together!
I then added the guideplates to 3 cylinders in and ran it for a couple days till i got the set of nonSA and added the rest of the guideplates and installed them. There was no abnormal wear on the guideplates or rocker tips indicating bind when compares to the rockers with SA tips and no guideplates. Like i said though there is no reason to have both and if the guidplate isn't aligned right it could bind so you want to avoid that.

It flurried last week here although its not that cold now. I have heard rumors that my little brother has been practicing driving stick in our driveway! hahahaha. Thats ok though since he was the one who cleaned it up for me when my gf took it home.

I installed 1.7's last year on my TA with EXCELLENT results. There is NO turbulance issue created with 1.7's and stock heads. The lift produced just is nowhere near high enough for that to happen. Yes it will increase the power band, my bolt-on combo pulled to 6300 after the rockers.
Hell 11.94 out of a Bolt-On LT1 ain't bad.
The only issue you will have is valvetrain geometery. You must use GM Bow Tie guide plates for a good set up. I can't remember the PN for these guide plates, but Matt might. Also I'd reccommend the Isky stock replacement springs as they are good to .550 lift.
I understand that Comp Cams now has a 1.7 rocker. I had dinner a few weeks back with Chris from Comp Cams and he was giving me a hard time for using Crane rockers on my car and told me about the Comp rockers, LOL... all in fun.
Anyway go with the 1.7's you wil not be disapointed.
Give the folks at Thunder a call as I believe they can set you up with the Comp 1.7's and all required components.
Good luck guys!
