For all people confused about there cpsensor problems/and im still having problems..
Hello I did a search and was trying to find out whats causing my ses light cps 336 I have replaced the sensor itself, still came on, went and bought the harness today came on again. I dont know what to do I have replaced the opti Friday 03/04/05 new plugs and everything.the car is running fine on the scantool. Now I did a search again and I saw on one of your comments about a cps reluctor ring, now whats that, I have not replaced that. Ok here are some symptoms i have noticed that causes the ses light to come on...First when the car is still cool at 65c" and I first get on it 60% percent throttle the light comes on, I know it weird. I have spent over a month trying to figure out the pronblem and its only when its humid or it rains when the light comes on..and when I first start the car and get on it....
Second should I just delete the cps is it worth it in your opinion or keep on trying...I cant find the dam problem. My car is a 97 trans am it has lt1 edit and all boltons no internal work done [no cam] so I know thats not causing my light to comeon still stock... thanks if you can help me anyone..

Brent is going to get on to you if you keep ttt-ing this thread. The CPS reluctor is between the crank hub and the crank gear. If nothing has been off the front of the engine, then there is little chance of anything being wrong with it. It's just a metal disk.
You replaced the opti and is that the opti harness that you replaced?
Do you only get codes when it is damp/wet out and never any other time under the same driving conditions?
Though not talked about much, the computer has the ability to determine if the timing set has a lot of slack in it. It compares the crank sensor info with the info from the opti and comes up with a deviation measurement. That can set off a P0336 and basically is what that DTC is all about. A sophisticated scan tool can display this value.
Sudden changes in engine rpm are more likely to set it off (in the case of slack in the timing set). You might experiment with driving it very gently as opposed to stomping on it some, just to see if there is a difference.
If it turns out that it only happens when there is moisture, then you need to look hard at wires, connections and for corrosion.

On the technical side, the code sets when the sensor duty cycle is not within prescribed limits. Since it seem sensitive to the "wet" is there a possibility you have a high voltage plug wire running close to and in parallel with the CKP sensor wires?

No i replaced thhe whole opti, and the only wire i can see around the cps wire is the o2 sensor that i dont use is wrapped around the loom and tie wrapped near the starter...
Re: For all people confusesd about there cpsensor problems/and im still having problems..
Im sorry about using ttt im just so confused dont know what to do so what your saying is that if it also comes on without getting on just driving normal then what could it be. if I cant find the prob do you think I should delete it.
Second I have a snap on scantool will that tell me if there is a lot of slack in the timing chain. And what kind of wires are you talking about I know plug wires for one second I have deleted the other o2s so the other one is tie wrapped with the other wire that the cps is going torwards the back, could that be the prob thanks and again sorry for using ttt I apologize...
