To all the have installed mac headers>>

What did you do with the plastic cover that goes around the steering joint on the steering shaft. I have that front primary tube off but it looks like when i put it the plastic cover is going to have to go. I see there is a ruber boot under the cover and i am worried about it getting burned off. Am i doing something wrong?

thanks
Shawn

I think you are going to have to do what we Hooker LT guys did and chuck those plastic pieces, they will melt if you put them back on. Eventually the heat of the headers will take out the rag joint. I think someone makes a metal spacer type joint or something I saw a discussion on here about it once.

I put it back on the first time but it started burning and smelled bad so I removed it. 15k miles later, still ok.

I took it off so that I didn't have to worry about the smell of it burning, now i can only smell the wires burning
Here's a tip if you haven't put in the passenger side yet: DON'T REMOVE THE DIPSTICK. I put mine in by just taking out the starter, taking the bolt out that holds the dipstick tube on, and pushed the header in from the bottom. Just pull the dipstick back while a friend pushes the headers in.

well these headers were put on the motor with it out of the car. I had my motor out for rebuilding and put the headers on before i put it in the car so dipstick is in.

Thanks

Yea thats good. My dipstick is not all the way in and zip tied to a rubber hose so it stays in place. So good call on leaving it in, its a PITA.

Has anyone tried chillin the dipstick tubes in the freezer before installing them, I've heard that makes it easier.
