On the back of my waterpump there is a black metal connector which slides onto the wp drive on the engine. Right now that connector is stuck on the old wp.
Is this piece reused or should I order a new one when ordering my new wp. Thanks in advance for all replies. -Mike

i switched to a electric WP but when I took off my old pump the metal connecter/sleve thing was on my engine and slid right off. You should be able to remove it, try maybe spraying some liquid wrench or something in there.
You will need to resue this shaft. It is the coonecting shaft that joins the gears between the waterpump and drive shaft. If it cannot be removed fairly easily, it is possible that the teeth inside are damaged and you may want to purchase a new one. A definate possibility would be to put a post on the board and ask someone for one since so many people are doing electric water pump upgrades.

No disrespect to you vodoo-chile, but it seems like alot of people are seeing electric waterpump failures. I was looking into getting one for my new 383, but after seeing so many failures I decided to go with an OEM pump. I have only seen a few people who have had problems with the mechanical pumps, and all have just been minor leaks. A leaking pump will still pump, but a shorted electric motor won't.

I was able to get the "sleeve" off of the wp with some Liquid Wrench. Thanks for the replies and suggestions.
I too like the idea of an electric wp, less parasitic loss as well as more flow at idle, but I must use this car daily.
