Comp Cam Tech Line - 1.6RRs/Coil Bind
Comp Cam Tech Line - 1.6RRs/Coil Bind
I called about the 1.6 Pro Magnum rockers to see if they would coil bind on a stock engine.
He put me on hold and told me that it was a Throttle Body Injected Camaro... I told him no, it is a Direct Port with a plenum and injectors at each port.
Then he insisted it was a Tuned Port (like the 3rd Gens).... I told him no, it had a single plenum manifold mounted directly on the motor... no runners.
He said I was full of it.
So then he recommended the CC501 Cam which will not pass smog... I wasn't even asking about a cam. But on the side, I've heard of CC503s passing in California with a good tune.
Long story short, I never got my answer. Will the 1.6 RRs coil bind on stock springs/stock valvetrain?
Also, since he brought up the topic... I've got a fairly modded bolt on 1995 Z28... I'm looking at the CC503 and tune with programming to pass smog. Has anyone done this with a CC503?

The 1.6rr will be fine. I just installed them on my 1993 and have no problems. The car pulls a lot harder now and even sounds better. They are worth the money. Very easy to install. Not sure on the cam but I have heard of them passing in NJ with a custom tune.
The first time I called Comp Cams, the guy was a d**ck. He acted like my questions where just insanely stupid and I was wasting his time. He didn't know much about 4th-gens either. According to him there was no way a cam with 220-230 duration would ever pass emissions!
Maybe it was the same guy... yeah, there is a lot of opportunity for improvement for the guys on the line.
By the way, here is the link to the Spec Card for the CC503...
