The Mastach one looks cheaper, but I don't know the quality level.

I just ordered the obd2 style cable from akm monday night and it will be here tomorrow (I'm checking via ups shipment tracking every hour... right now it's somewhere in SC..). I bought one from akm because everyone here says they're great and I knew I wouldn't get jipped.

They should both work.

Now does anyone know where to get some datamaster software cheap???

I've had the AKM cable for quite a while now. Very good quality, well worth the $$ in my book.

Definitely AKM. I've known Andrew for a number of years and he is a really great guy. All of his products are very high quality and he will treat you right. I've had several of his cables over the years and they have all withstood lot's of abuse.

Another thumbs up for Andrew. I've also known and done business with him for several years now and I will recommend him to anyone.

I'm gonna oppose I say Mastach, it fits both OBD-I & II and is only $45 shipped! Good quality.

Re: akm or mastach obd1 cable?

i have a mastach cable. I can get freescan to work, but not datamaster, tunercat, or mastach's testing software.

The customer service at mastach blows, the guy doesnt respond to my emails and ive done everything his serial connection file told me to do. He sold his cable to me on ebay for more than he sells it off his website. I'd like ot return his cable now so that I can get akm's help with my connection issues, but with mastach not replying to my emails, i dont want ot risk not getting any money back after I ship his cable back to him.

To top it all off, i paid more for his cable off ebay than i would have off his site, i had no idea he sells it on his site as well.

i have the mastach, and while i will agree that his support sucks, the cable is great. if you pay close enough attn. the "help" file included with the mastach cable is word for word the same as akm cable's help thing. i am satisfied with mine, i would be upset if i had payed anymore for it though...

i'd say with the akm you arent getting a better cable, but from what these guys here are saying, you are paying for service.

I still think its hardcore wierd that freescan works but nothing else does.

does anyone else have trouble with their Mastach cable using DataMaster?

I got my cable today, and tried it out, and would not work with DataMaster, well, it said the com was good using the test in the record window, but keeps losing COM and getting Sync errors.

WTF

Try moates.net for a nice USB cable.

Re: akm or mastach obd1 cable?

I have the Mastach cable and have gotten TunerCat, Freescan and DataMaster to work.

Initially, I had problems with DataMaster but found that the default def. file was for a TBI truck. I changed it to the LT1 file and somehow got it to work. I had to mess with it for a while though. I thought I had a connection problem, and it may have been. Me likes DataMaster!

No problems at all with TunerCat and Freescan!

I am not opposed to giving a new guy a chance but when it comes to programming a PCM you want to be 100% sure the cable is gonna do its job every time or the cost of new computers will far outweigh the price of that cable in no time. Go with AKM.

I had the exact same problem with the mastach cable. And that european fu**er wouldnt reply to anything when i asked, even though his feedback is impeccable. I didnt think it could be the cable cuz it works with freescan, but now im having my doubts. I hope anyone who solved this problem can, like TommyZ, give some specific input on what we gotta do to make that cable work .
