For the same reason you dont need seatbelts in a vehicle older than 1966. It wasnt required to have seatbelts in the vehicle until '66 therefor if you dont want them you dont need them! If you try to ride around in a vehicle post 66 without belts you wont pass an inspection (If inspection is needed)
Re: Airbag...toss it or keep it?
A harness and a cage pretty much make the airbag pointless, to repeat what others have already said. Besides, I hate airbags anyway. They ruined the interior of my car when there was no need for them to deploy.
Re: Airbag...toss it or keep it?
The air bag is designed to deploy when negative Gs (decelleration) reach a certian point. You could get rear ended by a truck and it still not deploy. This said, the only it's gonna deploy at the track is if you hit something.
In my opinion if your gonna drive the car on the street and take it to the track once and a while. Keep the air bag and just pull the fuse at the track. With the fuse out there is no way it's going to deploy. EVEN a 15 year old bag isn't going to deploy on it's own. Age has nothing to do with it. And a 6 point cage will not get in the way of a deploying air bag.
The number of people of removing safety related equipment (ABS, airbags, and fuel injection to name several)from their cars saying they don't trust it or they beleive it's dangerous boggles my mind. Just because you don't under stand how it works dosn't make it dangerous.

They keep improving them every year. I remember when they first came out people had them deploy from hitting a speedbump a little fast.
By the way I was wearing my seatbelt in my accident and was unharmed.
They put switches on some so you can shut them off...lol
